Well... I'm a 23 year old boy working on my bachelors of arts here at OSU. I'm a visual communication design major. This is my first year at OSU but not my first year at college. I spent a year in Cincinnati, attending Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. First taste of college, not too bad. Was easy for me and I jumped right into my major. First quarter at OSU, big difference but I adjusted. I guess I started when I was very young. Drawing using crayons, pencils, markers and occasionally finger paint. Of course through out my childhood I and a never ending thirst for knowledge and knowing in general so I branched off and explored science mostly. I'd go after topics such as geology and anatomy, medicine, aeronautics, biology, chemistry, was big on oceanography for a while but the list goes on. I can't name em all otherwise this essay would be longer. My art How I developed my tastes. I think it began with my mother. She always made little crafted items; crochet and whatnot. This being back in my childhood days. I really only saw it as a hobby and a thing to do every once in a while to sell crafted items. So I never really had taken it seriously. That is until I hit middle school. One of my art teachers there decided that I had talent. She encouraged me to draw and paint all the time. One of my final pieces I did for her was I painted an Egyptian Crane, mummified of course. I put in as much detail as possible, right down to hieroglyphs of my name (labeling me as a pharaoh of course). Had to finish it over spring break. It was worth skipping playing outside all day. Obviously I got an A in that class. That class really got me started as a professional artist. I didn't deviate after that from perfecting my own style. My style I've always loved nature. Running around barefoot in the fields, forests and trees. Rarely is there a straight line in the works that I do. There is always a twist, a turn or a curve. Spirals are inspiration. I travel in straight lines but that is only to get from point A to point B. Art, to me, is more about the journey rather than a destination. About the experience, more than how you get there. What I think is pretty and pretty ugly. Well, it suppose it depends on my mood at the time. One moment I will love something and the next moment after I will hate it. I guess the only rule I have is that I the art has to fit my mood on the day I'm in the mood for it. Certain artists for that inspire me are, Warhol, Pollock, Picasso and Van Gogh. Warhol, for his works showing the mundane as a real form of art. Pollock with his paintings like “Autumn Rhythm. Picasso and Van Gogh for being uniquely bizarre in their own right. Making their art work their own for the sake of being art. I suppose that is why I enjoy artwork. The uniqueness of it all. It is the only field in the world where it is all subjective, all about yourself. The meaning is what ever you say it is (most of the time anyway). What you want to see and what you want to understand what something is. Regardless about what someone wants you to believe.
