News media cover violent and deadly incidents, such as accidents, wars and crimes. This coverage is often preceded with a warning, stating that the information may be disturbing to some viewers. Sometimes graphic images are partially censored, by blurring or blocking a portion of the image, or cutting the violent portions out of an image sequence.

Violent content has been a central part of video game controversy. Critics such as Dave Grossman argue that violence in games hardens children to unethical acts, calling first-person shooter games "murder simulators", although no conclusive evidence has supported this belief.
